Join FARM in the nation's capital for an unforgettable, dramatic demo depicting...

The Stages of Meat

Join us in Washington, D.C. as we take a stand for animals in front of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We will demonstrate against the pointless suffering and death of the 50 billion sentient animals brutalized in the world's factory farms and slaughterhouses every year.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When: Tuesday, October 2nd, 12pm - 2pm (with activities running until 7pm)
Where: Washington, D.C. - In front of the USDA (14th & Independence)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This multi-pronged event will graphically depict some of the horrific stages of life and death that farmed animals must endure. Rather than animals, people or human forms will be inside cages, hang from a slaughter line, and become transformed into a packaged product.

We need YOUR help!

Please come out and show your support. We need volunteers to participate in the displays, as well as hold signs, leaflet, and more. Just let us know your interest.

If you would like to take part in this unforgettable event, contact us at info@wfad.org or 800-632-8688.

STAGE ONE will display people confined in cages.

A sad reality for most animals imprisoned within factory farms is that of severe confinement. Laying hens are crammed 5-7 birds into wire-mesh "battery cages" the size of a folded newspaper, which cut their feet and tear at their feathers. "Veal" calves are torn from their mothers and chained by the neck for 16 weeks in tiny, filthy wooden crates. Breeding sows are kept pregnant for three years in metal "gestation crates," enclosures so small the sows cannot even turn around.

STAGE TWO will reenact a slaughter line.

"Blood-covered" mannequins hanging from a pulley cord will be moved across the line... back and forth... as the butcher makes the kill.

The animals who survive harsh factory farm conditions are then transported to their demise at the slaughterhouse. They are shipped in crowded trucks with no food, water, or protection against weather extremes. Many die in transit. Sick and injured animals, called "downers," are dragged with chains to the killing floor.

Once inside the slaughterhouse, the animals face a gory, gruesome death.

According to a 10-year investigation based on interviews with slaughterhouse workers and USDA inspectors, many animals actually survive the slaughter process. Many -- alive and conscious -- are skinned, dismembered, gutted, scalded, and drowned in their own blood.

STAGE THREE will feature people packaged as meat.

The end result of such suffering is, of course, a packaged "product" -- ready to be cooked up for consumption!

The display is sure to make a powerful statement, with people packaged as meat like cuts of chicken, beefsteak, pork chop, tenderloin, or any other animal part found in the meat section at a grocery store.
