About World Farm Animals Day

World Farm Animals Day is a day dedicated to exposing, mourning, and memorializing the needless suffering and deaths of 56 billion innocent, sentient animals inthe world's factory farms and slaughterhouses. Observed in all 50 U.S. states and 2 dozen other countries, World Farm Animals Day has been organized annually since 1983 by FARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement), a non-profit public interest organization based in Washington, DC.

The date, October 2nd, honors the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, an outspoken advocate of non-violence towards animals.

World Farm Animals Day activities traditionally include vigils, marches, leafleting, tabling, and exhibiting. More dramatic events include die-ins and cage-ins and video rigs. Activists will encourage governors and mayors to issue special proclamations denouncing cruelty to farmed animals. Click here to find out how easy it is get involved!
